Physics of Goal Writing Part 1

What makes Energy for Success goal-writing unique from every other self-help course?

  • Goal writing is an essential component of Energy For Success. Write daily goals to direct and focus the application of the Energy For Success practices.

Write goals to focus on what you truly want.

  • Write goals to focus on what you truly want, like an archer shooting an arrow at the center of a target.
  • Be specific, concrete, and measurable with your goals. E.G., You may want new clients, when? Include a time period. Include what type of clients you want (e.g., win-win, pay on time, work in a specific industry, etc.).

Writing your goals out by hand is essential (Not typing). Why?

  • Because the movement of your hand has you already beginning to put that goal into ACTION. You are beginning to align the movement of your body into the creation of your goal.

Make goals that are not just your to-do list.

  • Better than you could imagine – Dr. Morguelan suggests a wonderful caveat you can add to the end of any of your goals. Try writing that your results happen even easier, faster, and better than you could’ve imagined.
  • How you’d like it to go on the way to achieving your goals. E.G., If you want to not only finish your report, but you want to do it quickly and easily, have your goal reflect that.

Goals can cover any aspect of your life–we call this the Great 8.
(The Great 8 includes: Relationships, Expanding Finances, Accessing Equanimity, Creativity, Health and Vitality, Intelligence, Noticing Serendipity on Command, Getting into the Zone/Flow).

  • You get to decide what goals you create. There are no wrong goals.
  • The only incorrect way to write a goal; is not to write one.

Use a physical Goals Book.

  • Use designated books for goals only.
  • You might carry a goals book with you throughout the day and practice writing down what you want. E.G., What do you want to create from having dinner with your friend? What result do you want from your work meeting?

Goals versus wishes – What is the difference between a goal and a wish?

  • A goal is something you are willing to take some small action on daily or weekly.
  • A wish is something you may want, but you just hope it will happen without your participation or having to do anything.
  • Achieving your goals requires taking action to move them forward and achieve them. We call this taking action steps.
  • Action Steps are the smaller steps within your goals that you are taking daily or weekly.

Goals are fluid and flexible.

  • Change your action steps as you learn what is working and not working.
  • Be open, flexible, and awake to the action steps for you to take to actualize your goal.
  • Revise or elaborate goals as you learn more along the way.
  • There is no wrong way to write goals except not to write them. You will always evolve and improve.

When writing goals, we always like to circle back to the Great 8. These are the 8 specific areas people access to blast into success. A rising tide raises all boats. By working on all the Great 8, it strengthens the areas you are weak in and expands further where you are strong. When you ignore any area of your life, will drain the energy from the other areas. So you want to be fueling all 8 areas of life.

Where your focus goes, the energy flows. The Great 8:

  3. Accessing Equanimity
  4. Enhancing Creativity
  5. Greater Health, Strength, and Vitality
  6. Increasing Intelligence

Serendipity and Results

Serendipity is when something happens out of the blue, when an event is totally random.

Go to the dictionary and you’ll see something like this:

Ser·en·dip·i·ty (noun): The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way. “A fortunate stroke of serendipity.”

Of all the wonderful things we can attribute to The Energy, whether it’s better health, easier relationships, or simply a more rewarding and enjoyable life, one of the most fascinating is serendipity.

Serendipity is something that The Energy can cause to take place.

Just like a baseball player positions himself to be in the most likely path of a ball that’s about to be hit…

You can actually position yourself to catch the positive effects of The Energy.

What Kind Of Serendipity Are We Talking About?

Virtually anything.

It could be a chance encounter with someone you haven’t heard from in years.

Maybe it’s stumbling onto the answer to a question you’ve been struggling to find, and it turns up where you least expect it.

Or it could be the solution to a problem dropped into your lap.

Whatever it is, there is no apparent, logical explanation. So we chalk it up to serendipity.

But here’s the thing.

When you’re in The Energy, and you chalk more and more of these seemingly random events up to serendipity, you can’t help but wonder how random they really are.

My student is a successful global business consultant.

I helped him move through a space of fear into a space of action, and then we finally used The Energy to resolve the bad situation he was in.

My student was miserable at work. His problems stemmed from a new client who was short tempered, irritable, abrupt, and disrespectful.

This client didn’t want to have a real conversation with anyone. Instead, he’d interrupt and say what he wanted to say without listening.

Now, as you can imagine, consultants aren’t motivated to work with people who are nasty.

The nastiness makes them feel uncomfortable and they can’t help but grow agitated.

Nobody wants to feel agitated. We’d rather let the unpleasantries pass by.

But most of the time we don’t. We grow sad or frustrated.

The Problem Went From Bad To Worse

My student felt that this new client was threatening the growth of his company because of a lack of interest in the professional advice he was being given.

Now, you might wonder what else my student felt besides sadness and frustration.

Well, he felt threatened and it’s only natural, because in situations like this, it’s tough to accept bad behavior as “part of doing business.”

The consultant was threatened by the fact that his client didn’t want to make a connection with him or communicate with him in any meaningful way.

I asked the consultant, “How did that guy make you feel?”

He told me, “I felt threatened by him. I felt excluded by him. I felt not understood by him. I felt that he had his way and he wasn’t willing to make any effort to learn the other way. To make matters worse, he lives in Geneva, Switzerland. So you can’t just bump into him in the hall. Locations only compounded the situation because he was distant. And he was physically distant as well as emotionally distant.”

Let’s stop for a moment and make a short list of what’s on the consultant’s mind.

It’s not an attractive list and everything on it involves fear, a terrible, gnawing fear of loss…

  • Losing income.
  • Losing effectiveness.
  • Losing value in the eyes of his client.
  • Losing value in the eyes of his organization.
  • Being forced into an unpredictable and undesirable future.

Let me show you how I helped my student move away from agitation, frustration, and fear so he could be in The Energy and score a few wins with the help of serendipity.

It all began with dealing with fear. We had to move beyond these crippling feelings of fear.

How to Counter Fear

To counter these fears, we went through a four-step decision making process.

You can do the same thing. It’s no more complicated than having a simple conversation with yourself.

  1. Ask yourself, “What’s the action?”
  2. Tell yourself, “I’m going to have to do something.”
  3. Ask yourself, “Well, what am I going to do? What can I do with The Energy now?”
  4. And, then you decide what to do.

Let’s go through each step together.

Step 1: What’s the Action?

Most often the temptation is to walk away from the incident and go someplace else to try to work through the frustration and the anger.

Maybe this someplace else is the gym or maybe it’s a cocktail lounge.

Whatever you do, whether it’s physically healthy or physically harmful, the problem is still there when you’re done.

You finally realize you’ve been down this road before and to solve the situation you really have to make something happen. Cocktails or bench presses won’t cut it.

This realization is worth its weight in gold… but only if you move forward.

Step 2: Decide To Do Something

To make something happen, you need to make a goal.

It can be as simple as telling yourself, “Here’s what I’d like to change.”

When you’re stuck, do something. Make the decision to make a change.

Step 3: Figure Out What To Do

A lot of people take the easy route. What they do is more of a temporary distraction than a step in the right direction.

Make whatever you do something helpful.

It doesn’t have to be the full-blown solution to the problem… but it should be a step in the right direction.

When I was helping my student who was a consultant, he asked me, “What can I do?”

This was a key question and I was delighted to hear him ask it.

That meant the spell was broken. My student was moving beyond the aggravation, agitation, and fear.

He was heading toward the place where being in The Energy could drop some serendipity into his life.

Step 4: Decide What To Do

The consultant realized, “Well, whatever I’m going to do I might as well fortify myself to be as powerful as possible in taking my actions. And then, I’ll decide what my actions are going to be.”

He decided, “I’m going to have an encounter. I’m going to connect with this guy one way or another.”

He learned that his client was coming into town and so he said, “Okay, now, I’ve got my encounter. My goal is to change things to create a win-win relationship.”

After You Go Through These Four Steps…

You will feel stronger. Your self-confidence will grow.

You might not arrive at your desired destination but you’re moving. You’ve taken decisive action.

What happens next?

Chances are you’ll face a few more challenges. The obstacles remain, but simply the fact you’re determined to overcome them puts you in a stronger position.

Recognize that your strength and stamina will be tested, so fortify yourself.

Prepare for positive outcomes. Position yourself to be in the right place, mentally and physically, so you can enjoy the advantages of serendipity.

Use The Energy to your advantage

It will keep you focused on the core issues, shield you from distractions, and insulate you from the self-destructive thinking of The Matrix.

The Apology Conversation

Is there a right way and a wrong way to apologize?

When should you make an apology? When will it be authentic, offered in the right spirit, and with a better chance of being genuinely accepted?

As you know, a lot of apologies are accepted, but the person who says, “I accept your apology” might not really mean it.

So, let’s take a look at the apology conversation so that you can be in The Energy to make two positive outcomes take place.

One outcome is that the apology you make is heartfelt and genuine… that you don’t deceive yourself or simply go through the motions because you think it’s the easiest way to get what you want.

The other outcome is that your heartfelt apology is recognized as being genuine… and it’s genuinely accepted.

Here’s How You Can Break Free From The Apology Trap

If you’ve looked at some of my other blog posts, perhaps you’ve read about my student who is a global business consultant.

If not, don’t worry. Here’s what happened with my student.

His relationship with his client soured because of personality frictions and a misunderstanding.

The consultant thought that the quick solution to put this misunderstanding to rest was to apologize and move on.

So, let me take you through the whole conversation between the consultant and his client.

(It will help you see what to do and what not to do.)

Getting Off On The Wrong Foot

The consultant started off by telling his client, “Oh, by the way, the last time that we interacted I felt badly that there was a misunderstanding. We really wanted you to know everything. However, we felt like for some reason it didn’t come across that way at all for you.”

Now, that’s not an apology.

It’s a half-hearted and vague attempt to spread the blame around. There is no accountability and no acceptance of responsibility.

So, I asked the consultant, “What did you say when you apologized to your client?”

Here’s what he said to his client.

“I wanted to apologize for not coming to you first when we had something to say to your team leader. We did not mean to disrespect you – it was a misunderstanding. We thought that your team leader had already talked to you about it. But, still, we should have come to you.”

He could have said all that without wrapping it into an apology.


As soon as you refer to something as an apology, The Matrix fires off in the other person’s mind.

The Matrix is a collection of toxic and limiting thoughts that are based on negative events that took place in the past.

When you say it’s an apology, you veer off the topic of interaction.

You’re looking for a dispensation, some kind of a get out jail free card.

It’s as if you are asking for a favor when there’s no need to.

All you need to do is inform.

You state the facts, and when you are in The Energy, stating facts in a way that connects with the other person is what comes naturally.

That’s because of your ability to think at a higher level.

You don’t need to grasp for the crutch of an apology when an apology is not necessary and not appropriate.

Do you get it?

In this situation, what the consultant should have said was something that helped the client view what happened as a misunderstanding.

Using the word “apology” got in the way of effective communication.

The better outcome was to help the client see that the issue has been acknowledged, addressed, and that it’s time to move forward.

The Alternative To Making An Apology

What should the consultant have told his client?

I suggested something like this…

“We can easily give you what you want. We are more than able to keep you informed. We can see that didn’t work in the past. We would like to get you the best solution right away. So, our solution would be to do A, B, and C.s. What else do you have to say to add to that?”

Do you see how much better that would be than an apology?

When you are having a conversation like this, you are in the human connection mode.

In effect you are saying…

“We are clear that there was a misunderstanding and that was not our intent.”

You want the other person to know that this is not the way you play ball.

You want him to know that you really want what works for him.

And now that you realize what will work for him is keeping him informed and that he can count on you. That is what he wants to hear.

When you communicate like this, the other person will usually react positively and say, “Well, that’s good.”

This is when you should ask a question, such as…

“Is there something else that you would also like?”

This opens the doors to a broader conversation. It involves the other person. It dismantles any barriers.

A conversation like this, instead of an apology, is a much better way to build the relationship.

What To Do If Another Problem Develops

It’s not a perfect world, is it?

Let’s say the consultant and his client smooth things over. But later on, a new problem crops up.

In this situation, the client can’t say…

“You know, the last time you guys messed up you gave me an apology. It’s not going to happen again. Now your apology is worthless.”

Instead, he’ll probably say…

“The last time you talked to me you said you guys could be counted on to do this and that, what happened?”

Then, you can say…

“Here’s what we did and here’s what happened. We can fix that also. We’re on it. And, we want you to be kept informed.”

Be Creative, Be Proactive, And Offer A Solution

An apology is a request. It’s not proactive. It’s a step backward.

An apology will limit your way forward. Chances are it will only create an opportunity for The Matrix to come into play… and play games with you.

You want to be known as the person who is creative and who has a solution.

So, let me give you a solution, a way you can move forward and begin to experience The Energy.

How the Energy Makes Conversation Effortless

No matter how difficult it might seem…

No matter how hard you’ve tried in the past to communicate with somebody who just doesn’t get it, or just doesn’t want to listen…

Don’t give up, because there’s a better way.

And it begins with something you’re probably already aware of, and that’s listening.

But listening is not a “one size fits all” practice.

There are different ways to listen, just as there are different ways to talk.

Let me show you how a different approach to listening (that will be incredibly easy for you to use) can turn communication that’s difficult into communication that’s natural and unforced.

A Different Way Of Listening

You already have an approach. There’s a method you use for listening that you’ve developed over the years and chances are it works for you.

Most of us think we’re good listeners, and on one level we are, but it’s the other levels that matter.

When you’re in The Energy, these deeper levels of listening are yours to experience and to benefit from.

What are these deeper levels and how do you reach them?

Like many of the things in life that The Energy can make easier for you, this different way of listening begins with awareness.

You should be aware of yourself and of the person you’re having a conversation with.

Start by asking yourself…

  • Am I interested in what this person has to say, or am I just going through the motions to create the impression I’m interested?
  • If I’m not interested in what this person has to say, why? How have I made this judgment call? What took place in the past that strips away my ability to listen in the present?
  • Am I thinking about something else when the other person is talking? If so,why does this other topic that’s taken over my thoughts deserve to be front and center?

Sound familiar?

I wouldn’t be surprised, because all of us are easily distracted.

The negative influences of The Matrix lures us into destructive thinking. Self-doubts, overblown regrets, and misinterpretations lead to trouble.

We lose clarity, confidence, and even the ability to express ourselves because we’re so wrapped up in fear.

It’s as if we’re afraid to listen because we’re not sure how we’re going to deal with whatever it is we hear.

That’s just one scenario. There are lots of ways The Matrix drowns out the voices of good communication and none of them are desirable.

How To Make Your Communication Effortless

One of the best listening skills you can master is to ask clarifying questions.

This is not just so the person you’re talking with knows you’re paying attention… clarifying questions help you understand what’s being said.

They allow the two of you to explore a topic in greater depth.

These clarifying questions also provide a conversational conduit for vibrations to flow back and forth, which fortify the connection being established.

At this point, communication indeed becomes effortless, and it’s all because of The Energy.

You Really Can Make This Change

If you visited my office and went through the files, you’d find more than 20,000 notes from people telling me what they’ve accomplished because of The Energy.

And as you might expect, many of the notes I get explain how bad relationships have been made better as a result of improved communication.

Why does this happen so often?

Why Hiding Out Never Works Out

Some people hide behind texts, others hide behind email.

For whatever reason, a face-to-face conversation petrifies them. Even Skype or FaceTime is scary.

But here’s the thing.

You can’t stay in your comfortable room and think, “I’m just not going to talk to anybody, I’m not going to do anything. I’m just going to operate through the world by texting.”

All in all, it’s a shame, a sad waste, and a needless surrender.

The temporary comfort somebody might feel from hiding out means the more fulfilling rewards of a rich and enjoyable life might never come their way.

Well, you don’t need to pay a high emotional price, and you don’t need to go through a new round of suffering to put yourself back in the world.

You can take the first step right now. All you have to do is decide to return to the world, the world where you belong, where better health, better relationships, and financial abundance can be yours.

Make this decision, and you’re on your way. Set some goals.

They don’t have to be huge or significant, just one or two things you can accomplish today.

Will Loneliness Actually Vanish Forever?

People ask me, “Is this going to protect me from feeling lonely or is loneliness going to keep coming up? If I do these practices, is that going to shield me?”

I often answer questions like this by mentioning that it’s really unique, highly unusual, to find a person that says they’ve never felt lonely or alone… or despondent because they feel separated from someone or something.

I’ve even had people say, “I still want to stay at my job because I love those people.
I can’t be without them.”

This usually makes me ask, “What are you talking about? Can’t you connect with people and make new friends?”

Sure you can. You might not be able to successfully protect yourself from never feeling lonely again. You’re a human being, you experience emotions, you’re alive.

But instead of trying to figure out how to protect yourself, stop being so defensive. That’s The Matrix influencing you, invasive thoughts that create fear and self-doubt.

Instead of worrying about protecting yourself, focus on connecting with things you’ll enjoy… people you’ll like to spend time with and all sorts of wonderful things you can do.

Does this mean you accept loneliness and surrender to this feeling?

Not at all. I’ve never found anybody who likes loneliness.

Yet it’s one thing that seems to creep into your life and you don’t necessarily know what triggers it. What changes about loneliness when you connect to The Source Energy is that it’s not nearly as powerful. You won’t be upended by it anymore.

That’s because my students learn how to keep their Energy field working, which strips away the pain of loneliness and replaces it with all kinds of other new and positive things that can happen in their lives.

This is a shift you can make.

I might say, “I’d like the staff and everybody I meet at the hospital to all chime in on whatever the projects are, so we get things done smoothly.”

“I’d like to actually be sharp all day, actually listen and be able to make good decisions without any confusion.”
